Ferdinand I

19.04.1793 – 29.06.1875

Ferdinand was the oldest son of Kaiser Franz and his second wife Maria Theresia. After his father’s death, he became the emperor and his surname was “Ferdinand der Gütige”. In the year 1831, he married the princess Maria Anna, but the couple had no children. Ferdinand was interested in botany, natural science and engineering. Political relationships during the year 1848 forced him to give the government work to his brother’s son, the just 18-year old Franz Joseph, in Olmütz. Ferdinand and Maria Anna spent their evenings in Prague on the Hradschin or in Bad Ischl in the “Kaiservilla”. Kaiser Ferdinand I died on June, 29th 1875, with 83 years in Prague, because of senility.
